A musical night for foodies and friends to raise funds for our dear friend Alex Moir

About the event
This is Alex Moir, a father, brother, son, Head Teacher and all-round brilliant bloke, who on his 47th birthday, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer which had spread from his oesophagus to his head, lungs, spine, adrenal glands, pelvis and liver. Luckily, thanks to the excellent work of his local NHS oncology department in Maidstone, there is some hope for Alex, who is already being treated with chemotherapy and antibody therapy. More detials of this treatment, costs and how it will help Alex is below.
We have organised a fund-raising evening of food and music in order to help raise funds for treatment for Alex.
The evening will start at 7pm with a two course Indian meal (dietary needs catered for), with musical entertainment provided by Ffion Spring and Wilson Beattie. Ffion, 14, is an accomplished singer and a former pupil at Parkwood Junior School and Wilson, 13, is an outstanding guitarist. Together they have curated a set specially for this occasion.
The food will consist of a mixed veg starter, with a main course of our now popular Masoori Black Pepper Chicken (mild), Garlic Chilli Chicken Masala (medium) Bombay Potato, Veg Curry & Pilau Rice. Drinks can be purchased from our Drinks Menu, tap water is always available on request.
Tickets are £25 per adult, with £15 from each ticket being donated to the fund. On your table will also be a list of 'house' drinks, £1 from every drink purchased will also go to the fund. Please note that tables may have mixed seating, and you may be sat with other guests. Due to the sensitive nature of the circumstances, this is an adults only event.
We hope you join us for an amazing evening for an entirely amazing gentleman. More about the treatment for Alex is below.
There is also a chance – one that we all pray for – that he will benefit from a new immunotherapy treatment called pembrolizumab. This treatment has been trialled recently, with stunning results, and it's Alex’s best chance of prolonging life.
Alex's oncologist wants him to start treatment in just 2 weeks’ time, on 7 November 2023, and to continue with treatments every 3 weeks for up to 9 cycles. Each treatment costs £4,666.96. Although the NHS has access to this treatment, it cannot fund it, which is why we are fundraising.
The treatment that oncologists have recommended for Alex is a groundbreaking new type of immunotherapy - which will have life-changing effects for many more patients than just our great friend.
The treatment works by keeping cancer cells from suppressing the immune system. This allows the immune system to attack and kill the cancer cells, which alongside chemotherapy will give Alex the best possible outcome.
By helping to fund this treatment it will allow its effectiveness to be considered for wider-ranging cancer treatments in the future - so not only will your donation help Alex, it will help the ongoing clinical research into this drug for the rest of the UK.
That is why we are raising the money to help Alex to fund this life-prolonging treatment. Any excess money beyond the funding needed for his treatment may be used by Alex and his family to improve their circumstances. Please donate whatever you can. Thank you very much for your help.
